Of all the errands I completed during this past four-day weekend, the most exciting fait accompli was my purchase of David Mitchell's Black Swan Green. The clerk at Skylight asked me, "Did you know he'll be reading here in a couple of weeks?" The real question is: did the clerk know I've arranged my entire schedule around that very event?
