not enough time in austin

So I've added Austin to my list of a very few places between LA & NYC where I think I could live. I'd be living there now if the Ph.D. program at the University of Texas had been a little less selective.

Our hotel boasted "the largest pool in Austin" which was a questionable comment on the rest of the city.

The always delightful Internet turned me on to this delicious dinnerspot, the Castle Hill Cafe. The description of the lamb was so enticing I interrupted my moratorium on baby-animal-eating for the first time in ten years.

After dinner, we saw Penny Jo Pullis on the outdoor patio of Opal Divine's.

taking a day off from speeding through the states

I'm spending another day in Austin before moving on, so no driving for me! It's been interesting to see the way other drivers treat me & my truck on the highways. No matter how fast I'm going, everyone feels this overwhelming need to pass me. They speed by and cut in between me and the car in front of me, which is usually the only reason I'm not going faster. Millions of juicy bugs have met their maker on my windshield. I'm getting muscle strain in my ankle from the angle at which I have to hold my driving foot for hours on end. The exhaustion is catching up with me, but I've seen so much beautiful scenery and my truck is holding up well.

Cake is doing some special secret show at The University of Texas tonight and we can't find out any information about it, which is somewhat frustrating. If you know of any good places to eat in Austin, fire me a comment.

Well, I started off the day getting bitten by a dog (I'm OK), so things could only improve from there. The weather was gorgeous, I finally had some company, and the trip went by more quickly than expected. Austin has been really fun so far. We had dinner at Guero's and drinks at Ego's. I'll let some photos show you more.
