All the rockabilly cats came out to see Junior Brown at the Continental. We saw about 3 minutes of the show before we decided not to shell out the $15 cover. I am unemployed, after all.

Austin native "Mark, as in Punctuation Mark" assured us that not all Texans voted for Bush. He also informed us that our next stop is the sex change operation capital of the world.

rest stop records - day 3

Since beginning this project, I'm amazed at the breadth of bathroom experience the wayfaring stranger can encounter.

A dirty faucet from the Sorrento, LA rest stop...

This Evangeline, LA rest stop lets the sun shine in.

The lovely amenities of the Brookshire, TX Love's fuel stop...

A little extra in today's edition: the bathroom at Austin watering hole Ego's.

More from the Ego's women's room...The cat is angry!

safe, sound, and in the south

Charlotte > New Orleans

Stats:
Miles: 736.74
Hours: 12
States: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana

I must be more used to driving than I was yesterday because today was much more manageable. I left around 8:30 AM and arrived at the home of a friend in the Big Easy around 8:30 PM. I've been learning the nuances of fast lane vs. slow lane politics and entertaining myself with music and audio books. I listened to the first few chapters of The Confessions of Max Tivoli, which I was reluctant to do because of Greer's blatant theft of Fitzgerald's premise in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." However, since this was already done by Gabriel Brownstein in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Apt. 3W, I shouldn't be too harsh a critic. Listening to Car Wheels on a Gravel Road outside of Slidell was a highlight. Anyway, it all helped pass the time as did the beautiful scenery along routes 85 and 59. Risking life and limb, I took some more photos.

Welcome to my world.

The sky was blue, beautiful, and welcoming.

What exactly do the police in this town do?

Spreading the gospel through motorcycling...

rest stop records - day 2

I broke the seal a little earlier today, so there are three pit stops to display.

When I asked the young woman at this South Carolina rest stop what town we were in and I didn't understand her when she told me, "Boiling Springs," she said, "I'm sorry. I'm country."
